We are pleased to present Citi Asia
Pacific’s latest Citizenship Report. This
is designed to complement our global
Citizenship Report by providing more
detailed information on our citizenship
activities around Asia Pacific.
We define citizenship as the positive
impact that Citi has on society and the
environment through our core
business activities, diversity efforts,
philanthropy, and volunteerism.
There is no doubt that the last year
has been especially challenging for Citi
and the financial services industry as a
whole. However, despite the economic
turmoil, our citizenship efforts have
continued and become even more
important than before.
Through our businesses in Asia
Pacific, we are helping to empower
disadvantaged people economically
through access to microfinance
products and services; providing
financial education to consumers to
help them make more informed
decisions; reducing the direct impact
that our operations have on the
environment; and promoting diversity
in the workplace. Many more examples
of how citizenship is embedded in our
business practices can be found in this
report.
In parallel, we have maintained our
support for non-profit organisations
that serve low- to moderate-income
communities. During 2008, we
committed over US$17.4 million in Citi
Foundation grants and business
donations to help increase the impact
and sustainability of more than 220
community programmes in Asia
Pacific. In addition, tens of thousands
of Citi employees volunteered for local
community projects.
In 2009, Citi Foundation funding has
been allocated to continue almost all
of our core community programmes in
Asia Pacific, focusing as before on the
areas where we can best contribute
our expertise and resources –
Microfinance, Financial Education,
Small and Growing Businesses, Youth
Education, and the Environment/
Sustainable Enterprises.
As part of our commitment to the environment, this online report is the most comprehensive version. We have produced fewer and slimmer hard copies of this report, and ensured that these were printed on FSC-certified and 100% recycled paper.
Thank you for your interest in Citi Asia Pacific's citizenship activies and we look forward to your comments.
