Citi Guatemala, Bank of Guatemala President Introduce Women's Council

Initiative to support integral development of women

Bank of Guatemala President addressed an audience of 900 Citi female colleagues on the important role of women as a driver of national economic development.


Guatemala City, Guatemala – As part of Citi's global strategy to support diversity and women's development, the Citi Women's Council was launched in Guatemala. The Citi Women's Council comprises a group of professional women from the local franchise that represent, both inside and outside Citi, the values of integrity, inclusion, non-discrimination and minority development. The Council's mission is to support the integral development of women in the bank, and to engage in social projects for the benefit of Guatemalan women.

"This launch shows Citi's commitment to promote the development of women, and to attract and retain talented women in our organization. Worldwide, Citi has programs focused on the development of women leadership to build the generations of talent needed for the present and future. We intend to create networks to communicate the stories of successful women, to enable them to become role-models and mentors, and to share best practices with all colleagues," said Juan Miró, CEO, Citi Guatemala.

The launch event, called "Women in Action," was held at the Great Royal Room of Hotel Camino Real, and more than 900 women, members of the female workforce of Grupo Financiero Citibank de Guatemala, attended.

At the event, Bank of Guatemala President María Antonieta del Cid de Bonilla talked about the work and role of women in the country's economic development.

In addition to celebrating the creation of the Women's Council, all attendees had the opportunity to hear a lecture about some areas of interest – women and family health and nutrition – delivered by Dr. Doris Ortiz de Mota, a specialist in Biological Nutrition and Medicine.

Citi's social responsibility programs include the "Microenterprise Award." Encarnación Sales, who won the 2006 Microenterprise Award for her efforts to grow her business, also participated in the event. Encarnación Sales runs a soy food business, and the award has helped her improve her quality of life.

The newly introduced initiative is just the first in a series of activities planned to support the development of women at Citi Guatemala.
