Poland: Citi Mobile Revolutionized

Citi Handlowy has launched the Citi Mobile application. It is the first Polish bank to expand its mobile offerings to Android™ smartphones. The application is already available on the OS platform for iPhones. Citi Handlowy also introduces a breakthrough solution for making quick mobile transfers. The solution uses bump technology to transfer money from one account to another. All you have to do is to bump two smartphones together. Citi Handlowy' new application is a transition to a new era of mobile banking in Poland. The bank declares it will continue to further expand its Citi Mobile offer by using other smartphone native functions.

The biggest challenge that banking-on-the-go faces today is creating a technology that will be popular among the users. M-banking cannot be just a gadget but a partner to help perform everyday banking operations. Threfore, Citi Handlowy decided to launch more than one type of mobile banking.

"We want our clients to decide which banking is the best for them. After we introduced a ‘light' version of Citi Mobile a bit earlier, now we offer new Citi Mobile application," says Adam Grabarczyk, Head of Mobile Banking Development Unit. "The solution is a real room to show off. Citi Mobile is faster than the browser version, and it can be expanded by adding other solutions that use smartphone native functions, such as GPS or camera. We are the first Polish bank to use the bump technology, which enables customers to make transfers by bumping two smartphones together."

With a mobile banking application, Citi Handlowy also provides a breakthrough market solution in the form of quick transfers via smartphone. The service, available under the working title of "B2T" (the Bank will soon announce a competition for the best name for this service), provides the possibility to transfer money from between clients holding accounts in Citi Handlowy by "bumping" their mobiles. Clients of Citi Handlowy use this service simply by taking the following steps:

Step 1: Log into Citi Mobile and click the "B2T" icon

Step 2: Select the relevant option: "Sending funds/Wysylam srodki" (sender of transfer) or "Receiving funds/Otrzymuje srodki" (recipient of transfer)

Step 3: Enter customer nickname (any word identifying the recipient/sender – for example, a nickname or name). The sender types in the amount of transfer and selects the source account. Now the recipient marks the target account of the transfer.

Step 4: The recipient and the sender "bump" their telephones ("BUMP")

Step 5: Clients accept the connection between their accounts. Clients confirm the dispatch/receipt of the transfer. After the confirmation, the money is posted to the account of transfer recipient.

"The solution was designed in a ‘social' spirit. It will certainly be popular for repaying small amounts, e.g., during lunch. We hope clients will like this form of transferring money. It is sophisticated, quick, friendly and additionally – as our experience shows – very fun! The solution introduces a new dimension into banking – the ‘fun banking,'" explains Adam Grabarczyk.

The Citi Mobile application was developed with consideration to suggestions from mobile banking fans, who have been discussing since May 2010 mobile solutions in banking on the Citi Mobile profile on Facebook and on the www.citimobile.pl (former www.mojamobilnabankowosc.pl) website. Citi Mobile will be distinguished by a clear and sophisticated interface. After installing the Citi Mobile application, the "pre-logging" screen will display six icons with links to different services, such as "Promotions/Promocje" (link to the Citi Handlowy site presenting promotions), "Discounts/Rabaty" (link to a discount browser for holders of Citi Handlowy payment cards), "a La Carte Programme" (link to the programme site), "Citi Mobile" featuring an information service on mobile banking. The icon "Guides/Poradniki" provides access to instruction videos showing how to use all the possibilities offered by Citi Mobile. A similar interface is accessible to clients logging into Citi Mobile. The screen will display a maximum of nine icons, providing quick links to accounts, deposits, transfer management, B2T service, information on forex rates, news section and contact details.

Citi Mobile lets you check your balances, see the history of your account, saving account, deposit or credit card, transfer funds to any Citi or other bank's account, use "bump to transfer" technology, pay off your credit card debit or top up your mobile.

For those who want to see how Citi Mobile looks like and how the process of transferring money through B2T works, there has been a special guide film prepared.

Citi Mobile is available for all Citi Handlowy Internet individual clients. For their convenience, the Bank has maintained previous logging rules. Clients may use the same login and password which they use for Citibank Online. Any operations performed through Citi Mobile are SSL encrypted.
