Partners Citi works closely with a range of external organizations, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and a network of socially responsible investors (SRIs). These partnerships help us to understand environmental issues and opportunities, as well as the concerns and priorities of our stakeholders. Some of these partnerships are also grantmaking ones (through the Citigroup Foundation), enabling us to provide direct financial support for efforts to promote economic growth that is compatible with our natural ecosystems. See below for a summary of grants in the environmental sector made by the Citigroup Foundation in 2006.

Citi Environmental Affairs teams with the Citigroup Foundation to develop its environmental grant portfolio each year, helping to identify promising projects, evaluate applications, and advise on strategic direction. In 2006, almost $2 million was awarded through 17 individual project grants. These grantee projects generally fall into one or more of three broad categories: Sustainable Development (SD), Forestry and Climate.
