Citizens Advisers Releases Top Ten Corporate Citizens List
 
Socially responsible investing firm names environmentally progressive companies

Portsmouth, NH — Today Citizens Advisers announced this year’s Top Ten Corporate Citizens in Environmental Stewardship. The list is drawn from the Citizens Index, a broad-based index of 300 companies that have passed multiple screens for financial strength and corporate responsibility.
 
“We were impressed by the range of environmental initiatives taken by this year’s winners,” said Citizens Advisers President Sophia Collier. “Environmental stewardship is not only the right thing to do, these companies know it’s good for business. Hopefully their progressive and effective actions will inspire others to follow their lead.”
 
To provide a broad perspective, Citizens selected one representative from each sector it uses to classify investments:
  • Consumer discretionary: Home Depot, Inc. (HD)
  • Consumer staples: Whole Foods Market Inc. (WFMI)
  • Energy: BP Plc (BP)
  • Financials: Citigroup Inc. (C)
  • Health care: Zimmer Holdings Inc. (ZMH)
  • Industrials: Masco Corp. (MAS)
  • Information technology: Motorola Corp. (MOT)
  • Materials: Sonoco (SON)
  • Telecommunications services: Sprint Corp. (FON)
  • Utilities: Calpine Corp. (CPN)
