Central America: Citigroup Responds to Floods & Mudslides in Aftermath of Hurricane Stan
Guatemala City, Guatemala – In response to the devastation in Central America caused by Hurricane Stan, Citigroup announced today that it has raised more than $22,000 from employees in El Salvador and Guatemala as well as the regional and local Citigroup offices for Hurricane Stan relief efforts in the region.
"I am proud of the overwhelming response by our local staff. Citigroup Guatemala employees not only donated funds that were matched by the branch, they have been personally involved in packing and distributing packages of supplies to the victims," said Juan Miro, Citigroup Country Officer for Guatemala.
Citigroup Guatemala employees have responded to the victim's needs by setting up fundraisers and volunteering with organizations such as the Red Cross, United Way and governmental institutions like CONRED and SOSEP. More than 60 Citigroup Guatemala employees have been providing assistance after work and well into the night. On October 12th, a national holiday, Citigroup employees along with friends and family, volunteered their time to help with relief efforts.
In addition to collecting food and clothing for the victims, Citigroup has established hurricane relief accounts for employees to send their donations in both El Salvador and Guatemala.
