Weill Statement Regarding South Asia Earthquake Relief Effort
NEW YORK – Sanford I. Weill today made the following statement in response to the White House’s announcement regarding the South Asia Earthquake Relief effort: “I am honored to have been asked by President George W. Bush to help lead the global private sector initiative to raise money for relief and recovery efforts following the devastating earthquake in South Asia. I am proud of the $3 million that Citigroup and its employees committed to relief efforts immediately following the earthquake, and I hope the South Asia Earthquake Relief effort will bring more attention to this part of the world and help the people who have suffered a tremendous loss rebuild their lives and their communities. Through philanthropy and volunteerism I believe we can make a difference. I look forward to working with the other business leaders on this important endeavor.”
