Guam: Citigroup Children’s Learning Center Inaugurated by First Lady Camacho
Guam – Today, First Lady, Mrs. Joanne Camacho, assisted by representatives of Citigroup, television station KGTF, and the Hagatna Public Library, inaugurated the Citigroup Children’s Learning Center.
This learning center is part of KGTF’s educational outreach partnership with the Guam Public Library System and is made possible by a $25,000 Citigroup Foundation grant to television station KGTF through United Way International.
The Citigroup Children’s Learning Center is at the main library in Hagatna. It is a first public-private partnership with a financial institution in the Nieves M. Flores Memorial Library’s (Hagatna Public Library) history.
First Lady Joanne Camacho, an avid guest storyteller at the public library, expressed her appreciation for this successful public-private partnership. She commended Citigroup’s community involvement and is grateful for Citigroup Foundation’s contribution. “This is an excellent example of how working together as a team between the public and private sectors can produce results towards improving our island’s education of our youth. On behalf of the community of Guam, we thank all of you for your commitment and vision.”
“KGTF is happy to introduce its latest accomplishment for the children of Guam and their parents, educators, caregivers, and mentors,” said KGTF general manager Jacqueline Ronan. The opportunity for KGTF TV 12 and the Guam Public Library System to team up with the Citigroup Foundation was a natural fit for all organizations. The new Citigroup Children’s Learning Center will support our community’s educational efforts by providing the environment and tools that will promote continuous learning.”
Mr. Ajay Kashyap, Citigroup Country Officer, expressed Citigroup’s commitment to identify and support initiatives that will help the next generation have access to high-quality learning opportunities. “The Center is one of several initiatives underway to help make a difference in this regard. We’re pleased to have had the opportunity to work with the staff and management of KGTF and the Hagatna Library. They have shown considerable commitment and resolve to launch the Center as a service for our community.“
The launch of the new service between KGTF and the Guam Public Library System will be supported by participation of volunteers from Citigroup who will host Saturday Story Hours at the Hagatna Library on a regular basis. The Center will offer a venue for scheduled mini-workshops and computer activities for the island’s young library patrons at no charge.
Currently, the Nieves M. Flores main library in Hagatna is the only public library available and closest to the central and southern villages of the island. It continues to grow and is committed to serving the people of Guam and providing them with quality education, informational and recreational materials and programs.
