Citigroup EMEA Wins Women of the Future Award 2006
London – Citigroup EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), has won the Corporate Award at the Women of the Future Awards 2006. Announced in London, the award recognizes the U.K. organization that best supports and fosters aspiring women.
The judges summarized the entry as follows: "Citigroup: The global bank has worked hard to create a workplace that emphasizes inclusion, innovation and achievements. As a centerpiece of this, ‘Coaching for Success’ develops high-potential younger women over a seven-month program and places graduates alongside personal coaches. This is a major investment and a truly powerful initiative that produces real results, with more than half the graduates moving rapidly up the career ladder. Said one new leader: ‘It inspired me to challenge myself.’”
Carolanne Minashi, Citigroup's head of talent management and diversity for the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) EMEA, said this is just a beginning: "Citigroup has an unrelenting focus on improving its standing in all strands of diversity, so we should all be very proud of this recognition. I look forward to continued success as the program goes from strength to strength."
The Coaching For Success Program is a seven-month development program for emerging female talent that has been run in the Citigroup’s Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) business for four years. Originally developed by CIB's Global Transaction Services (GTS) operation in New York, Citigroup Women GTS worked with the Citigroup Learning and Development Team to deliver the program successfully in the UK. Two years later the program was widened to include participants from all CIB businesses and women from other EMEA countries. Candidates are invited to apply for a place on the program based on a selection criteria of performance ranking and level within the organization.
To date there have been approximately 200 participants, 70% of graduates from the program going on to broader job responsibilities and, or promotion.
Citigroup has targeted women mid-level in the organization, with a view to strengthening and securing a pipeline of senior leaders of the future. The program utilizes a combination of classroom based learning, networking opportunities and senior level mentoring. Topics covered in the classroom range from presentation skills to organizational savvy.
The unique learning environment of an all-female program over an extended period of time adds an extra dimension of support and openness, participants receive peer-lead feedback at several points in the program and there is a high degree of mutual accountability to personal goals.
