FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) December 01, 2006 Citigroup Taiwan & Common Wealth Foundation Launch 2006 Citigroup Success Fund Taiwan – Citigroup Taiwan and Common Wealth Magazine Education Foundation launched the fourth annual Citigroup Success Fund program on November 29. Funded by the Citigroup Foundation, the initiative has supported the development of innovative English language teaching programs in Taiwan for the past three years. Through the Citigroup Success Fund, English language teachers are encouraged to create and implement new teaching ideas, particularly to rural-based schools. Talking about the campaign, Kathy Lin, Managing Director of Global Transaction Services, Citigroup Taiwan said: "Citigroup Success Fund is a very important philanthropic program for Citigroup worldwide. It was launched in 1990 in Florida to help new immigrants settle into the local community. "The program was later implemented in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. Based on its success in the other markets, Citigroup Taiwan introduced it in 2003 and will continue to support this and other education projects that make a positive and long-term impact on students." This year, the Citigroup Success Fund has been modified with greater incentives being offered to teachers. The first prize winner will receive a cash prize of NT$50,000, and in keeping with the program's slogan of "Creative English Teaching: Talk to the World," a chance to study a successful program overseas (thanks to a scholarship grant of NT$150,000.) Cathy Ling, General-Secretary of Common Wealth Magazine Education Foundation, said the Common Wealth Foundation shares Citigroup's passion for education. "We are big supporters of programs such as this because they make education and learning open to many students, not just those in the cities. The Foundation is delighted to have the opportunity to work with Citigroup and take the Citigroup Success Funds nationwide." In today's launch, students from Ping-Deng elementary school performed a traditional Taiwanese Puppet Show in English. A creative teaching seminar was also held for teachers at the event. Hui-zhen, Liao (the 2005 winner) and Emily Fu (the second-prize winner in 2005) spoke about their respective programs and the impact they have made.
