Utah Governor on Hand for Citi Foundation Grant Presentation at Citi Cards' Layton Site

Salt Lake City – Two community groups will be better able to support low-income families in Utah, thanks to grants awarded to the organizations by the Citi Foundation today.

Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. and Chief of Staff Neil Ashdown were on site at Citi Cards in Layton to help present the grants on behalf of the Citi Foundation to United Way of Salt Lake and Habitat for Humanity of Davis and Weber County.

Referencing his observation of Citi globally and locally, Governor Huntsman said, "Citi has a great management team that pulls all of you together. You ought to be proud and pleased to call Citi home."

He continued by thanking employees for being active in the community and contributing to causes that bolster economic and social development.

The grants awarded by the Citi Foundation, which focuses primarily in the areas of education and building communities, will support a volunteer income tax advisor service and a home renovation, both grants targeted to give support to low-income Utahans.

The Foundation grant awarded to United Way will help fund Volunteer Income Tax Advisor sites in rural Utah as part of the United Way "Earn it, Keep it, Save it" program. The program helps individuals and families in low-income households identify and claim earned income tax credit on their taxes.

Attendees of the event cheered as Citi Layton site president Matt Allred and United Way Vice President of Resource Development shared that last year the program brought approximately $21 million new earned income tax credit dollars back into the state of Utah.

Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties will apply its Citi Foundation grant to support the renovation of a home on Doxey Street in Ogden, which will become a much-needed affordable home for a Weber County family of five.

"We're very pleased with the multifaceted relationships we have with key nonprofit partners in Utah. These grants help demonstrate Citi and the Citi Foundation's ongoing commitment to supporting our local community," Site President Matt Allred said.

Citi employs approximately 800 employees at its Layton Cards Operations site. Site employees are active in the community and the business supports dozens of local nonprofit organizations and schools in Davis, Weber and Salt Lake counties with both funds and volunteers.

In 2006, giving by the Citi Foundation was more than $92 million supporting programs in 86 countries and territories.
