Bank Handlowy w Warszawie SA Economics Award Presented to Gurgul

Warsaw – CEO of Citi Handlowy, Slawomir S. Sikora, has presented the Bank Handlowy Award to Henryk Gurgul, PhD, for his book "Analysis of Events in Capital Markets." The jury of the competition chaired by Professor Leszek Zienkowski in its justification of the award stressed that the book "Analysis of Events in Capital Markets – The Influence of Information on Stock Prices" is of great importance to the development of the theory of economics.

The author of the book says that capital markets around the globe are bombarded with thousands of pieces of information each day. Part of the information is directly related to the stock issuer, while the other one is related to its environment and stakeholders. All these pieces of information have an influence on the company-issuer's value, which is reflected in the price of its stock, bonds, and other securities. That is why it is extremely important to measure the influence of events in capital markets on the company's value. In Dr. Gurgul's book, the following are described: the influence of the announcement of profit forecasts and warnings about not meeting profit forecasts on the capital market, as well as the influence of the announcement of analysts' recommendations on the capital markets. The publication is addressed to stock exchange analysts, investment advisors and investors, as well as lecturers and students interested in this subject.

The idea of the "Bank Handlowy w Warszawie SA Award" is to promote the most valuable publications in the field of economics and finance. The contest has been organized for 13 years by the Leopold Kronenberg Foundation. The rules and regulations of the contest have not changed since its first edition: applications for the award are submitted by schools and institutes of economics seated in Poland, banks, and economic self-governments, after receiving a letter of recommendation from the authorities of schools or institutions, as well as economic editorial houses. The jury, on motion of the Secretary, decides on the admittance of the publication to the contest. The main prize is PLN 40,000.00

Following the gala award ceremony and the inauguration of the 14th edition of the contest, the participants took part in a panel discussion held as part of the economic conference on "The Future of the Warsaw Stock Exchange" led by Rafal Wiatr, Vice President of Brokerage House of Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A.
