Citi Australia Launches One Community Week
Citi Australia today launched One Community Week, an initiative to recognize the contribution Citi employees make to our community and to encourage employee involvement.
One Community Week is a series of events aimed at increasing awareness amongst employees and stakeholders of our financial education focus and providing volunteer activities for employee participation.
Some of the activities to take place in One Community Week include:
- A Community Business forum for employees to learn more about our community financial education initiatives
- A financial education forum for external stakeholders with special guest Dara Duguay, Director, Citi's Office of Financial Education
- A women's media lunch with the theme "The financial journey of women"
- Community Christmas Challenge – employees have taken up the challenge of donating 1,000 Christmas gifts for seriously ill children and disadvantaged families. These will be provided to charities for distribution in the lead up to Christmas
- A blood drive for the Australian Red Cross
- School excursion hosted by Equities for 30 children from a primary school considered to be in a disadvantaged area
One Community Week will culminate in Global Community Day. In Australia volunteers will join thousands of Citi volunteers in 100 countries for the company's second annual Global Community Day. Employees, their family and friends will be volunteering on Saturday, November 17 to provide support to a range of charities, including Conservation Volunteers Australia, Bear Cottage, Giant Steps and Camp Quality.
Citi's Global Community Day is a worldwide effort involving hundreds of projects in hundreds of cities around the world. Recognizing that many Citi employees volunteer year-round in their communities, Global Community Day celebrates Citi's volunteer spirit on one-day worldwide.
"Citi is committed to mobilizing the enthusiasm and talents of our employees so that they can make a positive difference in the communities where we work together. Citi's Global Community Day is company-wide, with tens of thousands of volunteers in Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North America. It is a symbol of the many ways we make a difference, through our business practices, our philanthropy and our volunteerism," said Pamela Flaherty, President and Chief Executive Officer, Citi Foundation and Director, Corporate Citizenship.
Community involvement has always been a priority for Citi and employees. Each year, employees donate over $100,000 to charity through the Citi Workplace Giving Program. Citi is committed to the issue of financial education with the MakingCents and Hip Pocket programs aimed at improving the financial literacy of young people.
