Indonesia: Citi Promotes e-Statement Service in Environmentally Friendly "Go Paperless" Campaign

Jakarta – Citibank today launched its first Green Citi project, the "Go Paperless" campaign which encourages customers to change from paper to electronic billing statements (e-statements).

Besides helping to reduce the amount of paper being used, the e-statement offers other customer benefits including greater security (statements are PIN protected), speed and efficiency (e-statements are easy to file and can be accessed anytime and from anywhere).

"Currently, there are around 20 million active Internet users in Indonesia who use the web for many purposes, including banking transactions," said Shariq Mukhtar, Country Business Manager, Citibank N.A.

"Given this growing number we are urging more customers to receive and pay their bills on-line. To support this we have implemented industry leading security standards that protect customers from identity theft and fraud," said Mr. Mukhtar.

"As well, we are encouraging all customers to use our e-statement service to enhance efficiency and also play a part in protecting the environment."

To date, the Go Paperless campaign has received an overwhelming response and over 100,000 Citibank customers have signed up.

The program was marked with a mangrove planting ceremony involving Citibank employees and leading environmental NGO, LPP Mangrove at Angke Kapuk, a protected forest area owned by the Department of Forestry and managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and The Jakarta Municipality forestry service.

The ceremony continues a close association between Citibank and LPP Mangrove. In 2006, Citibank employees planted 5,000 mangrove trees in Angke Kapuk, while another 1,000 were planted by volunteers this year.
