Ecuador: Citi & Children International Conclude "Micro Company Training for Young Artisans" Project

More Than 1,200 Low-Income Quito Students Benefit from Program

Quito, Ecuador – December 2007 marked the conclusion of the first annual Micro Company Training Program for Young Artisans, a collaborative project between Citi and Children International designed to provide basic business training to young, low-income students from technical schools and artisan centers in the city of Quito. The closing ceremony, attended by representatives of the promoting institutions, schools authorities and participants was held at Miguel de Santiago School and Consejo Provincial School.

The program, created thanks to a $10,000 contribution from Citi Foundation, and with the objective to provide practical tools for young students to start their own productive activity, included the involvement of Citi Ecuador executives who volunteered in leadership sessions and shared their business knowledge and experience with the students.

More than 1,200 students from different educational institutions and areas of the city attended training sessions at one of eight participating artisan and technical education centers. Class sessions included basic business administration, accounting and finance, commercialization techniques, and business planning.

"For Citi, helping to build better communities has always been a priority. Citi Ecuador is convinced that business and financial education raises the quality of life in communities around the world, and through its support of this program, it is willing to improve the well being of Ecuadorians," said Diana Torres, Citi Country Officer for Ecuador.
