Financial Education Starts at Home for Citi Australia

Citi Employees Given Free Seminars in Work Hours to become "Financially Fit"

Sydney – Citi Australia is giving its 2,500 employees free seminars on personal finance topics, as part of the company's ongoing commitment to a "financially fit" workforce.

The seminar program comes as part of Citi's Financial Health Day, an initiative launched late last year to give all employees a full day off each year to review and take action on their personal finances.

Since the seminar program launched in March, more than 400 Citi employees have attended seminars on a range of topics including refinancing and debt consolidation, navigating the share-market, superannuation and investing in shares.

Upcoming seminars include getting ready for tax time and a workshop for first-time homebuyers. Citi uses its own in-house resources, as well as external presenters like Joan Baker, a financial planner and author of the book, A Man is not a Financial Plan, who will be traveling from New Zealand to deliver her acclaimed presentation especially for Citi employees.

Citi Country Officer Stephen Roberts says Citi is focused on being an employer of choice and wants to cement its position as an industry leader in financial education.

"We have some of the best financial minds in the country working for us, but as we all know sometimes busy people don't have the time to look after their own affairs so this was the central impetus for creating the Citi Financial Health Day. We want to give all our employees a meaningful amount of time to look after their own interests.

"Citi prides itself on being a leader in financial education so it stands to reason that we're also committed to providing our employees with access to the right information on a range of topics – to suit all knowledge levels, from basic up to advanced. We are investing in our employees by giving them the resources to invest in their own futures."

Citi's other major financial education initiatives include:
  • MakingCents – a financial education resource for primary school teachers that includes teaching resources, teacher professional development and a complementary program for parents.
  • Hip Pocket – a one day, interactive and engaging financial education workshop, available to both boys and girls in years 10 and 11, delivered in partnership with the YWCA NSW.
  • Citibank Money Survival Guide for Women – a handy pocket sized guide aimed at women of all ages with all the need-to-know financial advice and tips.
  • Use Credit Wisely – Citi's educational consumer website which gives advice on how to control debt and manage your finances.
  • Citibank Retirement Index – regular research which aims to educate people on the importance of planning for the future by examining how today's retirees prepared for, and are faring in retirement.
