Citi Partners with Bangladesh Post Office to Expand Distribution Network
 
Citibank, N.A. Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Post Office signed a correspondent network arrangement today which will facilitate payments for Citibank's clients in Bangladesh through the vast postal network. This is the first time that a commercial bank is setting up such unique correspondent network arrangement with the Post Office in Bangladesh.
 
The agreement was signed by A.K.M.Rafiqul Islam, Director (Mails) on behalf of the Bangladesh Post Office and Parvez Murshed, Vice President and Acting Head of Transaction Services on behalf of Citibank, N.A. Bangladesh. The signing ceremony was also attended by Mobasherur Rahman, Director General, Bangladesh Post Office, Mamun Rashid, Managing Director and Citi Country Officer of Bangladesh, and other senior officials.
 
Mobasherur Rahman said, "With 10,000 outlets and 40,000 staff, the Bangladesh Post Office is ready to serve for the benefit of the people. Very soon the Post Office department is computerizing its major Post Offices and then we will be able to help organizations who want to reach the last mile."
 
Speaking at the event Mamun Rashid said, "We have had a presence in Bangladesh since 1987 and today we are furthering our commitment by expanding our network with the assistance of Bangladesh Post Office."
 
Commenting on this, Parvez Murshed, added, "Citibank pioneered cash management services in Bangladesh and today again we proved our leadership in innovation by becoming the first bank in Bangladesh to sign a network arrangement with the Bangladesh Post Office. We work together extensively with post offices across Asia Pacific in countries like Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, etc., and this reflects our commitment to take the banking sector of Bangladesh forward in line with global best practices."
