Citi Volunteers Promote Energy Saving Practices in Shanghai
Shanghai Citibank (China) Co., Ltd. employees took some time out of their weekend on Saturday to take part in a light bulb exchange program at the "You Yi Cun" residential community of Jin'an District in Shanghai.
Mingling with the residents, they helped to exchange approximately 3,000 traditional incandescent light bulbs for new energy-saving ones. Brett Krause, Head of Global Transaction Services, Citi China, spoke to the residents at the event about the strong environmental need to use low energy bulbs in place of the incandescent ones.
Approximately 40 Citi volunteers and their families attended the event.
"This is a great event for us to participate in, and it is pleasing we can bring our families along as well. Our kids need to understand from early on that every one has a responsibility to the place we live and can do something to make it a better one, even through simple actions such as using energy-saving bulbs," said Tracy Ge, Relationship Manager of Institutional Clients Group, Citi China.
Brett Krause added, "While many potential solutions to climate change require large-scale action, fostering individual behavior that results in more efficient energy usage and lower carbon emissions is vital. Citi China is pleased to be supporting the use of compact fluorescent lamps in people's homes, which can have an immediate and positive impact on our environment."
The exchange program was also supported by The Bureau of Housing, Land and Resource Administration of Jin'an District and Neighborhood of "You Yi Cun," and was open to more than 1,200 households and almost 3,500 people. The program follows up a similar initiative held as part of Citi's Global Community Day in November 2007, during which bulbs were exchanged at a residential community of Tongji University in Shanghai.
