Hong Kong: Citi Awarded Neptune Orient Lines International Cash Management Mandate

Hong Kong – Citi has won the international cash management business of Neptune Orient Lines Limited and its group companies ("NOL"). The mandate covers 33 countries across South East Asia, Greater China, North America, Latin America and the Middle East, representing one of the largest global cash management deals to originate from Asia.

Within the open bid RFP process, NOL stipulated a need for a single cash management provider for each region in order to optimize its cash flow usage, to achieve cost efficiencies in its payments and receipts processes, and to obtain automation through secure electronic banking. The selected bank was also required to provide high service quality and after-sale services to support the entire cash management platform.

Satisfying all of NOL's requirements, Citi was awarded the international cash management business over numerous competitors, including incumbent banks. NOL selected Citi on the basis of its global cash management coverage and market-leading liquidity management capabilities, allowing the company to manage global cash positions across multiple time zones. The Singapore-based transportation firm highlighted Citi's treasury management platform, TreasuryVision, and its ability to enhance visibility of global cash positions, as a key competitive differentiator.

The win was significant for Citi for several reasons. Firstly, it again demonstrated Citi's industry dominance in winning complex cash and treasury management mandates. Secondly, the mandate win from NOL deepened Citi's control of servicing the cash management requirements of Asia Pacific's largest transportation and logistics companies.

Commenting on the mandate win, Ivo Distelbrink, Managing Director and Citi's Regional Head of Treasury and Trade Sales commented: "Citi's solutions will render NOL significant benefits in streamlining and improving efficiencies across its treasury functions globally. Citi remains committed to bringing global best practice treasury management solutions to Asia's local corporates, facilitating their global expansion. "
