Citi Morocco Celebrates Women at Work and Launches First Women's Forum

Citi Morocco invited its entire female workforce for the launch of the first Women's Forum. The event was hosted by Morocco Citi Country Officer Jim Morrow on 18th June 2008 with the participation of two distinguished guests, Naveed Riaz, Commercial & Corporate Bank EMEA Head, and Dounia Taarji, the General Director of CDVM, the Prime Security Market Regulator in Morocco.
In his introductory remarks, Jim Morrow said, "Promoting diversity in general in the workplace and gender diversity in particular is an important element of the overall Citibank philosophy." He then welcomed Naveed Riaz, and Dounia Taarji, who was invited to share her own experience in becoming one of the most senior women executives in Morocco.
During her speech to the 30 women employees of Citi, Dounia Taarji spoke about her educational and professional background and how she is managing to balance the challenges of being a senior executive while being a mother of two children. She stressed the value of diversity in the workplace, having worked with various nationalities in her career. She said "Interacting with people from diverse environments allows us to see the problems from a different angle and we grow richer from this experience."
While there are important efforts being deployed to improving gender diversity in the workplace in Morocco, there is still much to do in giving women the opportunity to occupy senior positions.
On women evolution in the workplace, Ms. Taarji comented,"It really depends on the women themselves. The hierarchy will develop a woman based on the commitment she shows in her daily work and each woman sets her limits for success."
The event ended with a reception in honour of the two guests and a group picture with all staff present.
