Citibank Malaysia Shows its Green Colors
Employees Recycle to Celebrate Earth Day
Kuala Lumpur Citibank Malaysia today launched its first recycling project to mark Earth Day and support the Government's call to go-green and reduce wastage.
The recycling project involved Citibank employees from its seven branches nationwide, who collected items such as newspaper, plastic, water bottles, card box boxes and aluminum cans. Employees were also encouraged to bring along recyclable items from their homes.
In keeping with the go-green theme and to encourage employees to become "greenies," these items were exchanged for potted plants, which they could place at their workstations or nurture at home.
Earth Day began on April 22, 1970 and it aims to promote awareness and appreciation of the environment and environmental issues.
"Preserving the environment is top of everyone's agenda. We realize the importance of going green and this initiative signals Citibank's commitment in supporting the global go-green agenda to reduce wastage and preserve the environment. We've decided to start small and reach out to our employees and customers first. The response has been remarkable. People in general are aware that they can make a positive difference by just caring and remembering not to waste, and reduce waste of stationery, utilities and equipment. Waste not, want not," said Michellina Triwardhany, Country Business Manager for Consumer Banking, Citibank Berhad.
As part of Citibank's "Go-Green" initiatives, employees are also being encouraged to switch off lights and personal computers during lunch and after work.
Said Triwardhany at the launch: "I can't tell you how impressed I am with what I've seen here today. If we continue to do what we have started today, then we have hope and we have a worthy strategy. Getting started is always difficult. The trick is not to get bogged down in the details but to focus on making changes a little bit at a time. I am sure we can make sustainable growth a Citibank culture."
Also present at the launch was Maya Karin, envoy of the Malaysian Natural Resources and Environment Ministry. Maya is a serious environmentalist who recycles her garbage, grows her own organic tomatoes and lights up her home with energy-saving light bulbs.
The "Go-Green" initiative is a collaboration between Citibank, Corporate Realty Services and Citi Business Services.
As one of the leading issuers for credit cards, approximately 15% of Citibank cardmembers have already enrolled for e-statements. Credit cardmembers can obtain up to 888 rewards points by enrolling for e-statements.
