Banking & IT Personnel Training

A mature and developed social economic environment highly relies on a healthy economy .With the financial industry becoming the core of modern economy, and with banking as its essential component, positive cyclical development of the banking industry has become a crucial link for sustainable economic development. Also, due to the continuous growth of information technology (IT) and the banking industry's needs for development, the in-depth integration between the IT and banking industries and the wide application of information technology in various banking areas have become the trend of industrial development.

Banking education from most Chinese universities is only designed for banking major students. It neglects the impact of IT on banking. There is a gap between the real-life operation in the field and the future development trend of the industry. Moreover, it is impossible for students from other majors to quickly understand the basic banking knowledge, the IT operating processes through current education system or books. As a result, students are unable to apply the technology to drive business innovations in the banking sector.

In order to meet the needs of the development of current banking industry, its future development trend and the financial education system, CSTC initiated the education program for banking and IT personnel (BBK) with the support from the Citi Foundation. BBK includes two phases and two forms. This first phase is called "Basic Banking Knowledge for IT Personnel". It focuses on introducing the evolution of banking industry from technical point of view with emphasis on the importance and impact of technologies on banking in its history. The second phase is called "Banking IT System and Management". It focuses on introducing the main contents of banking information system and management by explaining deposit, loans, payment and settlement businesses thereby enabling the students from IT and finance major and banking IT personnel to better understand the structure of the banking IT system and related IT technologies. Relevant initiatives include (1) co-authoring the first textbook that is about the integration between finance and IT with Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, and (2) Sponsoring and organizing finance and IT training program for the teachers from computer science major at CSTC's partner universities to help them quickly comprehend the integration between IT and finance, thus, enabling them to deliver higher-quality classes to the students who want to work in banking and IT field after graduation.
