Warsaw overhauls bank account structures

Rationalization of Warsaw municipality's bank account structure increases cash efficiency and lowers working capital requirements

The challenge

Poland's vibrant capital is home to 2.5 million people. The city was keen to improve the management of all its cash-related processes, as well as enhancing the way citizens make payments to government departments.

The project would encompass over 4,000 bank accounts and 1,500 personnel across 1,000 city offices and departments.

The solution

Citi carried out the rationalization of the Warsaw municipality's bank account structure, while putting in place automatic sweeps to ensure no cash sat idle when it might be put to better use.

A customized cash collection and supply system was also implemented, using a prepaid card solution with inbuilt controls to manage spending.

In addition, CitiDirect provided the municipality with an online system to monitor and control all cash flows.

A significant number of accounts were incorporated and many city government staff were trained within a 40-day period.

The result

Warsaw now benefits from more efficient cash operation as well as lower working capital requirements
