Defense service agency implements worldwide payments system

US Department of Defense achieves faster settlement of client payments and minimizes risks

The challenge

The treasury function of a large service agency within the US Department of Defense sought a payment solution that would transform its check-based payment process to an electronic system for worldwide vendor management.

Key objectives were to manage a heavy volume of global payments while reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

In addition, all payments had to be seamlessly integrated into the service agency's new Treasury Workstation system.

The solution

Citi WorldLink's low-cost solution used a host-to-host file transfer to deliver payment transactions into the required local clearing system. Initial currencies include the Omani rial, the Kuwaiti dinar, the Qatari riyal and the euro.

The result

With WorldLink integrated seamlessly with its Treasury Workstation, the department has made its process more efficient, achieved faster settlement of client payments and minimized the risk of fraud, counterparty default and currency fluctuation.

The solution has also met the Department of Defense's most urgent goal: reducing the number of onsite checks by 25% while increasing wire transfers by 188%.
