SJF Advisory Services, With Support from the Citi Foundation, Launches Cleantech Mentorship Program in New York City

Program to Aid High-Potential Entrepreneurs Who Are Using Environmental Innovations to Drive Rapid Growth; Will Support Green Job Creation

New York, N.Y. – Today, SJF Advisory Services (SJF) announced the launch of the SJF Cleantech Mentorship Program in New York City through a $75,000 grant from the Citi Foundation.

SJF's Cleantech Mentorship Program will provide a unique opportunity for ten high-potential entrepreneurs in the cleantech sector located in and around New York City to spend nine months accelerating their enterprises with support from seasoned entrepreneurs and industry leaders. SJF has selected for the program firms that are driving growth through environmental innovations and creating products and services that are more efficient, higher quality, safer and cleaner, such as a patent-pending technology to convert grease from the sewers into biodiesel; bio mass/solid waste gasification engineering; and a software solution for intelligently powering on and off idle servers and workstations.

The program will provide the ten entrepreneurs with guidance and feedback from experienced mentors, peer-to-peer discussions, educational sessions on topics of interest, networking events, feedback from SJF Ventures' investment team, access to SJF's existing network of cleantech enterprises, and individual strategy sessions for each company.

"Small Business Administration research and our own experience at SJF have shown that fast-growing entrepreneurial firms can have a big impact on growing the economy, in terms of jobs, revenues, and adoption of innovative practices," explained Bonny Moellenbrock, SJFAS Executive Director. "This mentorship program is designed to give these ten early-stage cleantech firms a significant boost in their ability to grow and attract investment capital."

"At Citi, we're committed to supporting innovations in clean technology as well as initiatives that drive green job creation," said Bruce Schlein, Vice President of Corporate Sustainability for Citi. "That is why we are thrilled to partner with SJF on the Cleantech Mentorship Program in New York City, which will help build a cleantech job cluster in the area."

The ten enterprises selected to participate in this program include Alpiron, BlackGold Biofuels, BlueSky Power, Ener-G-Rotors, Locus Energy, Noveda, PaceControls, Princeton Environmental, microGREEN, and Terra Fusion. These firms are active in sectors such as clean energy, biodiesel, alternative energy, smart building monitoring, biomass/solid waste gasification, and green building.

Mentors for the program include representatives of 21Ventures, GreenFuel Technologies, Urgent VC, LLC , DC Systems, LLC, NYC Seed, Sustainable Edge, LLC, Bain & Company, SpeechWorks, Urgent Career, and EcoSecurities.
