Citibank Pioneers Innovative Approach to Credit Cards


Citibank Rewards Platinum Card to set benchmark in consumer flexibility and choice

Kuala Lumpur – The launch of the new Citibank Rewards Platinum Card today made Citibank Berhad the first international bank in Malaysia to pioneer a suite of customizable card services incorporating internet and smartphone technology.

The Citibank Rewards Platinum Card allows customers to be in the driver’s seat by bringing together the added flexibility to select bundles of rewards and benefits called Rewards Category. Each category is tailored to specific interests and spending habits in segments such as shopping, driving, entertainment, travel and home.

“In 2013, Malaysia is expected to register a 5.2 percent growth in real gross domestic product (GDP), largely propelled by domestic demand and consumption,” said Sanjeev Nanavati, Chief Executive Officer, Citibank Berhad. “Malaysian consumers will play an increasingly important role in driving the nation’s growth and encouraging sustainable consumption.

“It is with this scenario in mind that we’re kicking off the New Year by setting yet another industry benchmark with the launch of the new Citibank Rewards Platinum Card.”

The new card also gives customers the freedom to choose and modify their rewards experience as their needs evolve. In addition, they can now redeem their points on-the-go via any digital smart phone.

With the introduction of Citibank Rewards Platinum Card, Citibank expects to attract 400,000 card members over three years from the emerging-affluent market segment. Citibank currently has 20 percent market share of retail spend in the cards market.

Targeted at lifestyle-oriented customers, the Citibank Rewards Platinum Card will offer customers 5X rewards points, automatic protection and bonus coupons for each category chosen.

As an introductory offer, card members will also enjoy two free Rewards Category of their choice. Additionally, they will be awarded 20,000 Citi Rewards points upon spend of RM500 within 60 days of their card approval.
