London – Citi has won Energy Risk Manager of the Year Award from Energy Risk magazine.

“We are delighted to have won this prestigious award from Energy Risk. It was a very competitive field, and to be so honored highlights our commitment to providing innovative products and unequaled risk management to our clients during challenging market conditions in 2012,” said Stuart Staley, global head of commodities at Citi.

The award was presented to Citi at the awards dinner during the 17th annual Energy Risk USA conference in Houston, Texas. There will also be a presentation for European-based winners at a reception in London on June 13.

Energy Risk based this award upon Citi’s considerable strength across a range of different energy products in a range of different countries, it said. The pitch was buttressed by a variety of client testimonials.

Citi’s global commodities group now consists of 275 front office staff and it has made several key hires over the last several months. Most notably, at the end of last year it recruited Jose Cogolludo from BNP Paribas as global head of sales, a newly-created role.

Last month it also added two senior energy traders – Andy Zipper and Hugh Byrd – to its Houston operations.

“Citi has the biggest client base and, by far, the most extensive global footprint of any of the major banks,” said Jose Cogolludo, global head of commodities sales. “We are very strong in emerging markets and believe that will provide the engine of growth in the next few years. The commodities business is in a great position to derive benefit from that growth and this recognition from Energy Risk underlines our commitment to this business.”
