Richard Gerwitz

Co-head

Richard Gerwitz is Co-Head of Citi Community Capital, the community development lending and investing division of Citi, with over 30 years of experience in the tax-exempt securities and real estate markets.

He began his career with Merrill Lynch in 1978 as a municipal securities analyst, subsequently moving into the investment banking division. In 1984 Mr. Gerwitz was retained to help start the municipal securities division at Security Pacific National Bank. In 1992 Mr. Gerwitz left the bank and negoatiated the formation, and became president of a real estate limited partnership whose partners were the Ford Motor Company and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The partnership was funded with more than $1 billion in performing and non-performing real estate assets designated for liquidation. He returned to the tax-exempt bond investment banking industry in the late 1990s when he joined Citi Community Capital, formerly known as Newman & Associates, focusing exclusively on the financing of affordable multifamily rental housing.

In Richard's role as Co-Head of Citi Community Capital he directs the activities of the unit's affordable rental housing lending, mortgage and investment banking team, as well as its involvement with Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) and other Community Reinvestment Act lending and investment activities.

He is a frequent speaker at industry events, serves as the chairman of the Santa Monica Housing Commission, and is a member of the advisory boards of the Journal of Tax Credits, the New York State Association for Affordable Housing (NYSAFAH), the New York Housing Conference (NYHC), and the Citizens Housing and Planning Council (CHPC).

Mark Sherman

Structured Lending & Investment Manager

Mark Sherman works in the Structured Lending and Investing group within Citi Community Capital (CCC). He is Head of CCC’s Structured Lending and Investment Group, CRA-qualifying structured lending origination initiatives, various municipal structured products, securitizations and agency executions. Mark joined Citi in 2002

Prior to serving in his curren t role, Mark worked in Citi’s Municipal Capital Markets Financial Products and Accounting Policy Groups. Before joining Citi, he served a one-year fellowship at the Financial Accounting Standards Board and worked as an assurance and advisory associate at Deloitte.

Mark graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. degree in Accounting.

Barry Krinsky

Director

Mr. Krinsky is the National Production Manager of Citi Community Capital (CCC). He has over 25 years of experience providing real estate lending, mortgage banking and investment banking services to developers, owners and operators of real estate. He is responsible for overseeing the financing of multifamily affordable housing utilizing Low Income Housing Tax Credits combined with tax-exempt and/or taxable construction and permanent loans using CCC’s proprietary balance sheet programs as well as those offered by CCC via its Fannie Mae Delegated Underwriting and Servicing and Freddie Mac Optigo Lender relationships.

Prior to joining CCC, Mr. Krinsky was a Vice President of Capmark Finance Inc., previously known as GMAC Commercial Mortgage. In this capacity Mr. Krinsky was responsible for originating numerous transactions financed with tax-exempt bonds and/or Low Income Housing Tax Credits. Other responsibilities included product marketing, initial loan underwriting and process management. The principal financing products included Agency tax exempt bond credit enhancement and mortgage loans throughout the Eastern United States.

Mr. Krinsky graduated Magna Cum Laude from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications Management.

Jeremy Johnson

Co-Head

Jeremy Johnson is co-head of Citi Community Capital – the community development lending and investing division of Citi. In his role as Co-Head of Citi Community Capital, Jeremy directs the activities of the CCC’s Project Finance team, which focuses on acquisition, construction and permanent lending for multifamily projects throughout the country. Additionally, he directs the Structured Lending and Investments team, which is responsible for Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), New Market Tax Credit (NMTC), Historic Tax Credit (HTC) and private equity investing, as well as all other Community Reinvestment Act lending, investment and structuring activities within CCC.

Prior to joining CCC and through his previous roles within the Citi’s Municipal Securities Division, Jeremy has worked on complex transactions, including preferred share refinancings for large closed-end municipal bond mutual funds and securities lending transactions on large municipal bond portfolios held by European financial institutions. Jeremy received his B.S. in Accounting and Masters in Public Accounting from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
