Citigroup Inc. operates in South Africa through legal vehicles (collectively, “Citi South Africa”) that are regulated by, inter alia, the Prudential Authority, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority, Strate Supervision and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Each such vehicle is also a Private Body for the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (PAIA) and accordingly publish the Manuals available below in compliance of both POPIA and PAIA.
Purpose of the Manuals
The purpose of these Manuals is to foster a culture of transparency and accountability within the South African financial services industry of which Citi South Africa, through its long established presence, forms a part. Furthermore, their purpose is to give effect to both the constitutional right of access to information, where that information is required for the exercise or protection of a right, and the right to privacy in relation to the protection of personal information. Both PAIA and POPIA recognize that the rights to access of information and privacy respectively may be limited in accordance with section 36 of the Constitution to the extent that such limitation is reasonable and justifiable in an open and democratic society based on human dignity, equality and freedom.
