Ten years since New Yorkers first experienced the joy of riding a Citi Bike, the program has far surpassed our early expectations to become an essential part of New York life. It&rsquo;s radically changed people&rsquo;s mobility for the better &mdash; providing a reliable means for millions to explore the city.
New Yorkers embrace the convenience of Citi Bike, with riders <a href="https://www.bicycling.com/news/a41404182/citi-bike-keeps-breaking-its-own-ridership-records-in-nyc/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link-source="tiny">consistently breaking</a> ridership records, whether they&rsquo;re a parent hauling groceries, a worker commuting to their shift, or a student returning home from school.
Citi is committed to supporting this sustainable and healthy way for New Yorkers to get around town. That&rsquo;s why we recently decided to continue our sponsorship with Lyft, and to extend our title sponsorship for another 10 years through 2034.
How it all began
Starting in 2009, then-Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (who I worked for before joining Citi) and NYC Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan proposed bringing bikeshare to New York. While the concept was already successful in Europe, there were doubts about whether it would work in New York.
Rather than using public money to fund the program, the Bloomberg administration invited the private sector to partner to make it financially viable. This was unfamiliar territory for companies &mdash; vastly different from sponsoring a stadium or film festival. Within the U.S., no business quite knew the risks of associating their brand with a bikeshare program, given the possibility of accidents or other unfortunate events.
Fortunately, Citi saw opportunity and was willing to take the risk. We knew the public-private partnership with New York City, our hometown, would help improve the way that residents get around. And we saw the incredible value that could come from pioneering at scale a new communication channel &mdash; bikes.
In May 2012, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/08/nyregion/new-york-cycle-sharing-gets-a-name-citi-bike.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link-source="tiny">we announced our title sponsorship</a> of an affordable transportation mode called &ldquo;Citi Bike.&rdquo; Our support has helped to create, install and run the nation's largest bikeshare program at no cost to taxpayers. In doing so, we helped create the city&rsquo;s first new transportation network in a century.

From launch, the Citi Bike program was like lightning in a bottle.
The program encourages millions to make biking a part of their lives: last year, an astounding 1.5 million unique riders hopped on, and riders have logged 339 million miles in trips since its launch. The network has expanded to 1,700 stations and counting, approaching 30,000 total bikes across NYC, Jersey City and Hoboken, New Jersey &mdash; a major increase from the initial 6,000 bikes at 300 stations. Importantly, low-income riders can benefit from a Reduced Fare Bikeshare membership at $5 per month, thanks to Healthfirst, the Citi Bike program's official wellness partner.
Thanks to all of those Citi Bike riders on the street, the city has also become more welcoming to cyclists over the years. The effect is self-reinforcing: the Citi Bike program&rsquo;s growth and the overall <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2022-05-05/as-e-bikes-surge-new-york-city-tries-to-keep-up" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link-source="tiny">surge of biking in New York City</a> is possible in part because of the city&rsquo;s commitment to investing in safe, connected bike lanes. Roughly 1,500 miles of bike lanes now crisscross the city. Those new lanes encourage more people to ride, and the cycle continues.
The program has also become, well, pretty cool. Citi Bike has emerged as an iconic cultural reference, with celebrities from <a href="https://www.thecut.com/2016/05/leonardo-dicaprio-citi-bike.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link-source="tiny">Leonardo Di Caprio</a> to <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/05/14/tom-brady-rides-citi-bike-around-nyc-in-best-morning-ever/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link-source="tiny">Tom Brady</a> and <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-6797693/Sarah-Jessica-Parker-rides-CitiBike-filming-Season-3-HBOs-Divorce-New-York-City.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link-source="tiny">Sarah Jessica Parker</a> all spotted on the ubiquitous blue bikes. It seems like one can&rsquo;t watch a television episode or movie set in New York without spotting a Citi Bike station.
The road ahead
Certainly, residents felt the program&rsquo;s impact most profoundly during the pandemic. Ridership reached new heights as city dwellers sought a dependable, safe mode of transportation. When the city began to reopen, Citi Bike was there, supporting its recovery.
As the pandemic made clear, our economic and physical health, our environment and our social welfare are all linked. More than a fun, affordable mode of transportation, Citi Bike bridges gaps in the city&rsquo;s transportation network. Citi will use Google Cloud&rsquo;s Vertex AI platform to deliver generative AI capabilities across the company

NEW YORK and SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 28, 2024 &ndash; Citi and Google Cloud have joined forces in a strategic, multi-year agreement to support Citi's digital strategy through cloud technology and artificial intelligence (AI). This collaboration focuses on modernizing Citi's technology infrastructure and enhancing employee and client experiences on cloud-based applications.
Through the collaboration, Citi will migrate multiple workloads and applications to Google Cloud's secure and scalable infrastructure. By modernizing its technology infrastructure on Google Cloud, Citi will unlock the ability to offer improved digital products, streamline employee workflows, and run high-performance computing (HPC) and analytics platforms. This includes using advanced HPC capabilities to facilitate the execution of millions of computations daily in Citi&rsquo;s Markets business.

FORT WORTH, Texas, and NEW YORK – American Airlines and Citi today announced the extension of their more than 37-year co-branded partnership for the next decade, taking the relationship to new heights, with Citi becoming the exclusive issuer of the AAdvantage® co-branded card portfolio in the U.S. in 2026. Working more closely together, Citi and American can create significant value for both AAdvantage® co-branded and Citi-branded cardmembers.<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>“American is proud to have launched the first airline loyalty program, and with Citi, the travel industry’s first co-branded credit card,” said Robert Isom, American Airlines CEO. “The strength of our relationship with Citi has enabled us to deliver first-class products and customer service to millions of AAdvantage cardmembers. American Airlines and Citi Extend and Expand Co-Branded Card Partnership, Paving the Way for More Customer Benefits

<ul><li>Citibank, N.A. received an "Outstanding" rating on its Community Reinvestment Act exam, marking its second consecutive top rating in the evaluation.</li><li>The achievement highlights Citi’s long-standing commitment to community development and expanding access to capital, particularly for low- and moderate-income communities.</li><li>Citi's efforts — including significant investments in mortgages, small business loans and community development — and their positive impact are a key part of the bank’s mission to enable growth and economic progress.&nbsp;</li></ul>

NEW YORK – Citi today announced that Citibank, N.A. has received an “Outstanding,” the highest possible rating, on its most recent Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) performance evaluation from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. This is the second consecutive exam period that the bank has received this rating and serves as an important recognition of its longstanding commitment to the communities it serves in the U.S.

"When Citi puts the scale of its resources and investment capabilities to work for our communities, it unlocks significant economic opportunity. We have a long track record of supporting local community development, expanding access to capital and working with community organizations. An Outstanding rating on the CRA exam clearly demonstrates that these efforts are having a positive impact on local communities."

The CRA, enacted in 1977, requires banks to help meet the credit needs of the local communities in which they are chartered, including low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods. For the evaluation period, Citibank allocated over $145.9 billion to retail and CRA activities. Of this amount, Citibank endeavored to meet the needs of its CRA assessment areas through:<ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>97,000 mortgages and 455,000 small business loans totaling more than $82.9 billion in financing;</li><li>$13.5 billion in community development lending to help LMI communities, including over $1.1 billion in Paycheck Protection Plan community development loans;</li><li>$6.8 billion in community development investments and an additional $168.7 million in grants and donations; and</li><li>Connecting more than 1,800 Citibank employees to nonprofit organizations that provide services for LMI individuals and communities, with a focus on financial education, technical assistance for small businesses and first-time homebuyer education.</li></ul>Citi’s investment and support of local communities is core to its mission to enable growth and economic progress. Citi Wins American Banker's "Innovation of the Year" Award

<ul><li>Wyatt Crowell has been appointed Head of North America Citi Commercial Bank (CCB) effective May 2025 reporting into Tasnim Ghiawadwala, Head of CCB.</li><li>This strategic appointment will drive the growth of Citi's commercial banking business in North America, leveraging Crowell's extensive industry expertise.</li><li>Crowell will focus on deepening client relationships and delivering innovative client-centric solutions.&nbsp;</li></ul>

NEW YORK – Today, Citi appointed Wyatt Crowell as Head of North America Citi Commercial Bank (NAM CCB). Wyatt will assume his role in May 2025, and will report to the Head of CCB, Tasnim Ghiawadwala and Citibank N.A. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Head of NAM, Sunil Garg.Based in New York, Wyatt joins Citi from HSBC where he has been the Head of U.S. Commercial Banking since 2015. Prior to joining HSBC, Wyatt was at Barclays and served as the Co-Head of U.K. and Ireland Corporate Banking Coverage as well as Head of Global Multinational Corporates. He started his career at J.P. Morgan in investment banking, holding various roles in M&amp;A and mid-corporate investment banking.&nbsp;In his more than three decades in the banking industry, Wyatt has accumulated extensive knowledge of multiple client segments and has a deep understanding of banking products and solutions. He is a proven leader that drives growth with a focus on client experience and operational excellence.

I am pleased to welcome Wyatt as our new Head of NAM CCB. Wyatt’s deep industry knowledge and broad banking experience, across multiple large global institutions, are tremendous assets to Citi. Wyatt will be leading a critically important part of our global franchise as we seek to continue scaling in our home market and deliver for our clients with excellence.
