David also shared his experience growing up as an only child in a blue-collar home in Baltimore, his approach to “patriotic philanthropy” and how he hopes to inspire his hometown by investing in the Orioles.

David Rubenstein is Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of Carlyle. Previously, he served as Co-Chief Executive Officer of Carlyle. Mr. Rubenstein is a Baltimore native and is the Chairman, CEO, and principal owner of Major League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles. Prior to forming Carlyle in 1987, Mr. Rubenstein practiced law in Washington, D.C. with Shaw, Pittman, Potts &amp; Trowbridge LLP (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP). From 1977 to 1981, Mr. Rubenstein was Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy. From 1975 to 1976, he served as Chief Counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments. From 1973 to 1975, Mr. Rubenstein practiced law in New York with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton &amp; Garrison LLP. Among other philanthropic endeavors, Mr. Rubenstein is Chairman of the Boards of the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Gallery of Art, the Economic Club of Washington, and the University of Chicago; a Trustee of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins Medicine, the Institute for Advanced Study, the Brookings Institution, and the World Economic Forum; and a Director of Moderna, Inc. and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Mr. Rubenstein is a member of the American Philosophical Society, Business Council, Harvard Global Advisory Council, Madison Council of the Library of Congress, Board of Dean’s Advisors of the Business School at Harvard, Advisory Board of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, and Board of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Community. &nbsp; Mr. Rubenstein is a magna cum laude graduate of Duke University, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa. Following Duke, Mr. Rubenstein graduated from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review.

Leon Kalvaria is a member of the Client Organization Management Committee, and Citi’s Private Equity Investment Oversight Committee. Previously, Leon was Chairman of Citi’s Institutional Clients Group. Before that, he was Global Head of Consumer and Healthcare Investment Banking.&nbsp; Leon joined Schroders in 1996 as Global Head of Consumer Banking, and Citigroup in 2000 following the merger of the two companies. Prior to Schroders, Leon served as Vice Chairman and a Director of Triarc Companies, an investment company, and as Managing Director in the Mergers &amp; Acquisitions Group at Credit Suisse First Boston. Leon was also a pioneer in the interest rate swap market at First Boston and a founding member of ISDA. Leon has advised numerous Chief Executive Officers and Boards of Directors in some of the largest and most complex global mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations and public offerings. Leon received his BA from Princeton University (Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs) and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and Heineken Family Council.

Citi Global Chair of Banking Leon Kalvaria hosted Dara Khosrowshahi for another session of our global speaker series, Legends Live @Citi.Dara has managed Uber’s business in more than 70 countries around the world since 2017. He was previously CEO of Expedia, which he grew into one of the world’s largest online travel companies.Leon and Dara spoke about a wide range of topics, including &nbsp;his decision to join Uber and his efforts to transform its culture and rebuild trust.

Dara Khosrowshahi is the CEO of Uber, where he has managed the company’s business in more than 70 countries around the world since 2017. Dara was previously CEO of Expedia, which he grew into one of the world’s largest online travel companies. A seasoned executive with a background in both engineering and finance, Dara oversaw a number of acquisitions that bolstered Expedia’s offerings and aggressively invested in mobile, which now accounts for more than half of Expedia’s traffic. He was also beloved by Expedia’s employees and named one of the Highest Rated CEOs on Glassdoor. Dara was promoted to Expedia CEO after serving as the Chief Financial Officer of IAC Travel, a division of IAC, which purchased Expedia in 2002 and spun it off in 2005. He was also instrumental in the expansion of IAC’s portfolio of travel brands. Before joining IAC, Dara served as Vice President of Allen &amp; Company and spent a number of years as an analyst. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Expedia and Catalyst.org and was previously on the board of the New York Times Company. He’s a passionate advocate for refugees in crisis around the world, having himself left Iran during the Iranian Revolution at the age of 9. Dara grew up in Tarrytown, New York, and received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Brown University.

Citi Global Chair of Banking Leon Kalvaria hosted Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google, for another session of our global speaker series, Legends Live @Citi. Ruth is a trailblazer whose journey has been marked by incredible leadership and decisive action. Her exceptional achievements have garnered widespread recognition, including being named among the most powerful women globally by both Forbes and Fortune. She is responsible for Alphabet and Google’s corporate investments philanthropic efforts, real estate and workplace services and company infrastructure. She also oversees Alphabet’s forward-looking “Other Bets” investment portfolio. During the session, Ruth shared valuable insights on the power of data and taking risks, the importance of innovation, the value of continuous learning and the need for clear communication.

Ruth has been President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google since September 1, 2023. &nbsp;In this role, she is responsible for the company’s corporate investments and investment vehicles, including GV and CapG, the Other Bets investment portfolio, Real Estate and Workplace Services, and other company infrastructure. She regularly engages with policymakers and regulators about the company’s business and impact across markets related to economic growth, job creation, and opportunity. She also oversees the company's philanthropic efforts, including work to expand access to digital infrastructure, and support education and workforce development initiatives globally. &nbsp;She reports to Alphabet’s Chief Executive Officer. Before assuming the role of President and Chief Investment Officer, Ruth served as Alphabet and Google’s Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from May 2015 until July 2024. Ruth started her career as a banker at Morgan Stanley, with her last position there as CFO. Ruth is a member of the Board of Directors of Blackstone Inc., the Council on Foreign Relations, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the Board of Trustees of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She previously spent 10 years on Stanford University’s Board of Trustees and on the Board of the Stanford Management Company. Ruth holds a BA from Stanford University, an MSc from The London School of Economics and an MBA from the Wharton School.

Michael Rubin is the Founder and CEO of Fanatics, a digital sports platform reimagining the sports fan experience. Since 2011, Michael has expanded Fanatics’ offerings through relentless leadership and innovation. Along with licensed merchandise, the platform specializes in trading cards and collectibles, live commerce, sports betting and gaming, and fan and collector events.
