Our Commitment to L.A.'s Youth

In 2014, the Citi Foundation selected Los Angeles as one of 10 cities for its inaugural Pathways to Progress initiative, which provides young people ages 16-24 with the opportunity to develop workplace skills and leadership experience necessary to compete in a 21st-Century economy. Through entrepreneurship training, service opportunities, mentoring and summer jobs, Pathways to Progress gives young Angelenos the tools they need to access a job early in their working lives, ultimately better positioning them for their professional and economic future.

  • 740+low-income youths impacted in Los Angeles
  • $760,000pledged to help young people in Los Angeles increase their employability at a time of high joblessness
  • $50,000,000funded nationally, making Pathways to Progress the largest Citi Foundation initiative to date

Building & Enhancing L.A.'s Infrastructure

A city's infrastructure serves as its foundation and is key to enabling its progress. As early as 1900 Citi supported the expansion of the railroads in California, leading the way to growth and economic prosperity for the region. Ever since, we have continued our commitment to enhancing critical infrastructure in Los Angeles to support its success and growth.

Today, we continue to demonstrate our commitment, leveraging our connected set of capabilities to enhance our impact to this great city's continued success and growth.

  • 1970s–1980s Issued $300 million in bonds for the Department of Water & Power, and $250 million in bonds for the L.A. Department of Airports
  • 2005 Helped underwrite a major expansion of the Port of Los Angeles, ensuring it remains the busiest container port in the U.S.
  • 2012 Helped underwrite $269 million in bonds to finance the planned multiyear renovation and expansion of LAX
