In 2014, the Citi Foundation selected Washington, D.C. as one of 10 cities for its inaugural Pathways to Progress initiative, which provides young people ages 16-24 with the opportunity to develop workplace skills and leadership experience necessary to compete in a 21st-Century economy. Through entrepreneurship training, service opportunities, mentoring and summer jobs, Pathways to Progress gives young Washingtonians the tools they need to access a job early in their working lives, ultimately better positioning them for their professional and economic future.

  • $4 million+pledged to help young Washingtonians increase their employability at a time of high joblessness
  • $50 million+funded nationally, making Pathways to Progress the largest ever Citi Foundation initiative to date

Support for Affordable Housing in Greater Washington


Over the years, Citi has been a lead partner in projects across many D.C. In Greater Washington, Citi is a lead partner in projects that enable progress in housing, schools and essential services for diverse communities, with projects including:

  • The Conway Center
  • Fairway Park
  • The Crossing at Olde Town
  • Samuel Kelsey Apartments
  • The Lofts at Capitol Quarter

These projects reflect our commitment to sustaining vital communities for all residents of the District.

  • $26 millionin financing raised for The Conway Center, which will bring job training and heath care to the homeless and low-income families
  • $33 millionof debt acquired to rejuvenate the Fairway Park complex in 2012
  • 199 unitsof low-income housing built after providing construction and permanent financing for The Crossing at Olde Town in Gaithersburg, MD
