In financial services, users will have their own bots or AI agents helping them choose products and execute transactions. Those tasks that are outsourced today to contractors or third parties will be increasingly done by agentic AI.<o:p></o:p>The financial services sector is the second largest consumer of GenAI after the telecom and media sector. Historically, banks are the biggest spender on technology (outside of the tech industry). From ordering food to ride-hailing and how we work and socialize, we are increasingly expecting instant service.This Citi GPS report focuses on the shift toward real-time payments, driven by technological changes and enabled by regulation and policy shifts. With over 80 jurisdictions representing 95% of global GDP now offering instant payment schemes, the world is set to experience explosive growth in global real-time payments adoption. The transition to a 24x7 real-time economy presents both challenges and opportunities, and it will be crucial to balance speed of transactions with robust security.&nbsp;Corporates will benefit from the efficient use of liquidity and capital but will have to invest in infrastructure for always-on operations, including outside traditional business hours. At Citi Institute Future of Finance Forum on June 26, global experts, clients, and policymakers came together to examine the road ahead. From the rise of agentic AI and stablecoin adoption to quantum readiness and cross-border harmonization, nine themes stood out.<h2>1. Agentic AI: From Automation to Collaboration</h2>Agentic AI—systems that can take action on behalf of users—are poised to reshape decision-making and workflow execution in financial services.<ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Misunderstood but already useful: Agentic AI doesn’t need perfect data to be effective. Stablecoins are crucial for liquidity in this area and Merchants, where adoption is slower due to the costs and resources needed for infrastructure upgrades. Solutions like linking Visa credentials to crypto wallets are bridging the gap.</li><li>Global Interest and Use Cases: Stablecoins are particularly attractive in emerging economies, offering a dollar-denominated store of value and facilitating efficient, cost-effective global transactions for businesses and merchants.
