Citi New Zealand has today announced a $40,000 donation to support the work of Auckland City Mission and especially the provision of food parcels to families in need.

With this money, the Auckland City Mission will be able to produce 300 food parcels to feed families across Auckland and help the organization address increased demand for support.

CEO of Auckland City Mission, Chris Farrelly, expressed his gratitude for the donation, saying the numbers of people seeking support have increased dramatically as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting lockdown. "Following the lockdown, many families have been affected by business closures, reduced hours and pay cuts. Some – particularly those in precarious work arrangements – found themselves suddenly uncertain of how they will afford to feed their children.

"Normally, Auckland City Mission distributes around 450 food parcels per week, however this has increased to more than 1,200, as more families feel the impact of the disease and associated quarantine measures."

Commenting on the announcement, Citi New Zealand CEO Derek Syme said, "We're very pleased to be able to help out. So many Kiwis are doing it tough at the moment and we want to keep supporting the important work of Auckland City Mission any way we can".

"For several years, the Citi New Zealand team has volunteered their time to help pack boxes at Auckland City Mission, and this $40,000 donation complements our ongoing voluntary efforts."
