With the expertise of the Skilling Australia Foundation and Citi Foundation grants, the "Citi New Recruits" program has been tackling youth unemployment, linking real skills development with real jobs since 2013. The "Citi New Recruits" program links young people with traineeships and apprenticeships. The program specifically targets youth who are unemployed or at risk of becoming unemployed following school.

At the core of the program is the 3-4 week job-ready intensive training program incorporating a work experience component which contributes to successful job placement outcomes. The program also encompasses a number of key pre and post program activities, including mentoring.

Now in its fourth year, the Citi New Recruits Program has achieved significant results. In its first year 127 young Australians were supported with 92% completing the four-week job-ready program; and subsequently 83% engaged in employment, or further education or training.

With such successful results, the program was expanded in 2014 with 135 young Australians participating in the program, with places offered in a number of new industries. The program once again delivered exceptional results: 95% of participants completing the job-ready program; and 86% placed into employment or further education and training.

Phase 3 of the program saw the expansion of the program in order to reach a larger audience in the Greater Sydney and Greater Melbourne areas. With this phase 310 disadvantaged youth aged 15-24 years were targeted. The program supported 220 young Australians with the job ready intensive program that prepares them for work in hospitality, traditional trades or business industries as well as gaining work ready skills including mock interviews and work experience placements. We are also engaging 90 current school students across several schools who are at risk of /becoming disengaged with a specific school based job ready program.
