Executive Vice Chair and Senior Executive Advisor

Mark Mason is Executive Vice Chair and Senior Executive Advisor to the Chair and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Citi. In this capacity, he provides strategic counsel to the CEO and senior leadership team, supporting the firm’s long-term strategy, operating priorities and key stakeholder engagement.

Prior to this role, Mr. Mason served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Citi from February 2019 to February 2026. As CFO, he led the company's financial stewardship through a decade marked by significant macroeconomic turbulence. His work over the past seven years has included recasting the firm’s strategy to generate higher returns and increase capital distribution to shareholders while simultaneously driving Citi’s international consumer divestitures and delivering against the firmwide transformation as well as rebuilding investor confidence.

Mr. Mason joined Citi in 2001 and has held several senior operational, strategic and financial leadership roles, including CEO of Citi Private Bank, CFO of the Institutional Clients Group, and CFO and Head of Strategy and M&A for Citi’s Global Wealth Management division. Mr. Mason was instrumental in navigating the firm through the Global Financial Crisis in his capacity as Chief Operating Officer and then CEO of Citi Holdings.

Prior to joining Citi, Mr. Mason was Director of Strategy and Business Development at Lucent Technologies and spent several years as a strategy consultant with Marakon Associates. Earlier in his career, he worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs.

Mr. Mason serves as Vice Chair and Trustee of Howard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance and graduated with Honors. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School. He has served as a Director on the Board of Microsoft, Inc. since 2023. He resides in New Jersey with his wife, and they have two adult children.
