Blockchain & Banking: Opportunities, Challenges & TAM

Todd McDonald, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at R3, joined us to discuss the role of blockchain/DLT in financial services. R3 is an enterprise distributed ledger technology company that focuses on regulated financial services and works with financial services players to help them build or use existing DLT network. Todd mentions some of the early projects around securities settlement helped launch work on wholesale CBDCs while the idea of a retail CBDCs was driven by announcement of BigTech led private stablecoin. In the future, Todd expects, blockchain to become invisible so an average user doesn’t realize that there's a blockchain underneath the application and the network that they're participating in.
